Providing a proactive water retail service for public sector customers

The public sector’s water management is a unique and challenging responsibility, so it goes without saying that the sector needs a retailer they can trust. At Wave, whether you’re in the healthcare, education, local government or social care sector, your needs are our ultimate priority. That’s why we pride ourselves in providing a proactive business water retail service for public sector customers.

Committed to excellent water services

We understand how vital it is that you choose the best water utilities for your organisation, as the public sector faces more scrutiny than most. High levels of accountability, tight budgets and strict efficiency targets mean that monitoring and reducing water consumption is so important.

Wave work both directly with organisations in the public sector and with procurement companies and pride ourselves in our excellent customer service, reporting, account management, meter reading and billing.

At Wave, we believe in going the extra mile for our customers to make sure they’re not only getting the best service but also thinking proactively about how to make changes both within and outside their organisation that will benefit the community and the environment. We support with water saving strategies, helping organisations to understand their current water consumption, trends in usage and innovative solutions that can work for them. Our range of value-add services, such as our Leak and Flow test and our Leakage Find and Fix Survey, are designed to benefit customers by cutting wastewater and costs. We worked with Cleveland Fire Brigade, who saved £5K in fire water allowances after reviewing all 15 of their fire stations, Royal Borough of Kingston made an annualised saving of £42K following Wave’s investigation and repair of a large leak at a Recreation Ground, Oxfordshire County Council received a 100% leakage allowance totalling £16K after Wave challenged the Wholesaler over the leak being on the water meter and not the customer’s private pipework, and Redcar & Cleveland Council saved over £3K thanks to our Active Water Management services.

We know that every organisation within the public sector is different, so our dedicated account managers are on hand to discuss any requirements and come up with a strategy that works. We believe knowledge is the key to making positive change, and our member webinars are designed to educate and inspire organisations.

We care

At Wave, social value initiatives are part of the day job. Our staff are passionate about the planet, and we try to make a difference wherever possible. Our volunteering event at the Tees Barrage was a huge success. We teamed up with eight regional local authorities, NEPO, the regional public sector procurement organisation and the local Councillor Bob Cook to make a positive impact on the local environment and community. We built on existing relationships and found opportunities to share best practices and ideas on policies, employee support, wellbeing in the workplace and we have many more volunteering opportunities in the pipeline.

Sustainable practices

Wave is playing its part in the wider movement to decarbonise the water industry, creating our social and sustainability promise and aiming for net zero emissions by 2030. We know as a water retailer we have a responsibility to reduce both water and carbon emissions and we’re working with our customers and suppliers to achieve this.

One of the ways we hope to encourage change is through our internal portal, Alaya. It allows our employees to take part in small challenges such as shortening their shower time for a week or using a refillable water bottle for a month. Each event is recorded and Alaya calculates the water or carbon savings both individually and as a company. There are also options to donate to charities, meaning our employees can see the difference they’re making every day, boosting morale and determination to make a change for the better.

Our resources page is a value-add service designed specifically for public sector customers, providing educational content around water and savings and advice on promoting wellbeing in the workforce. We know you can’t do your best work without feeling your best, and avoiding stress and pressure wherever possible is the way forward. During the pandemic, we worked with a psychologist specialising in burnout and trauma, running a session for staff to help recognise the signs and prevent major mental health crashes.

Don’t just take our word for it

Our public sector team have years of experience in the water industry and we’re proud to be the chosen retailer for thousands of organisations across the UK, as well as several public sector frameworks. In addition to winning Water Retailer of the Year in 2021, we were recognised for our contribution towards NEPO’s social value award commendation and were proud to be finalists at The GO Awards 2022 which celebrate the very best procurement achievements from public, private and third sector organisations.

We understand that the public sector’s needs are unique and require special attention, and we’re here to provide that, whether it’s day to day account support, implementing water saving strategies or industry advice. Contact us today for more information.
