Wave’s sustainable move: 83% of furniture resold and reused

Last year, we downsized our Durham office to a smaller, more energy efficient space designed to promote growth and collaboration. The decision was driven by our commitment to our Social and Sustainability Promise, which includes our carbon reduction road map to net zero.

We didn’t just stop there. Through donations of old office items alone, we saved carbon, diverted waste from landfill and made progress on our mission to become net zero.

Minimising our carbon footprint

The move meant we had a surplus of office furniture, which gave us an opportunity to do good by helping the local community and driving down our carbon footprint. Instead of throwing away our old furniture and letting it go to waste, we donated a total of 389 office items to Crown Workspace’s ‘Giving Back’ project. Any furniture that couldn’t then be reused or recycled was given to charities, schools or social enterprises.

Helping our planet and our communities

Altogether, 83% of the office items donated were reused (by weight) and another 10% were recycled, saving almost 30 tonnes of CO2e and diverting over 11 tonnes of waste from landfill. This is equivalent to the CO2e produced by powering 43 homes with electricity for an entire year, and we’re looking forward to seeing what else we can do.
