First self-supply license granted

Brewer and pub retailer Greene King has become the first and only business so far to apply and successfully obtain a self-supply licence from Ofwat, allowing it to provide its own water and wastewater retail services in the open market.

The new licence will enable the company to:

build on efficiency works already undertaken, whilst driving cost and consumption control in the next phase of its water management strategy.

Greene King will only pay wholesale prices and with this licence, become a market participant and member of MOSL with voting rights and supply water services to multiple sites for its business.  By having a self- supply licence they believe they will see significant savings in account administration.

The retail responsibilities will be undertaken by Waterscan.
